Thanksgiving Dessert: Keeping it Simple

I believe that often the simplest dishes with the clearest flavors are the best. This glass compote holds our simple diced orange on the Thankgiving table this year, garnished with coconut and pecans (likely from a tree my grandfather planted in the heart of rural Alabama).

My mother says she remembers this glass dish holding canned peach halves and cloves when she was a child. At about two feet tall, she would look up through the underside of the glass dish at the sea of orange sweetness that sat on the table. It seems appropriate that it hold something orange now, no?

One more: A lustful shot of the mashed potatoes, just opened for serving. Yes, I was actually sitting at the table snapping. Until someone snapped at me to put away the camera. ;)

Happy post-Thanksgiving all, hope you had a wonderful week.
